I AM a 26-year-old male who has always been interested in clothes, as opposed to "fashion". My frustration is that there doesn't appear to be a clothing store in Wellington that doesn't have the same clothes as everywhere else. Choice is also very limited - every shoe these days has a square toe, every T-shirt has a logo. Women seem to have a far greater variety available to them. What's the story?

I hear your frustration Andrew. It's a gripe that's echoed by many friends of mine. The reason for it quite simply comes down to business. I've had this discussion with many retailers over the years and they all say the same thing. They have a U-Boat Replica Watch go at offering the Kiwi male some choice, but it seems blokes on the whole don't spend enough on their wardrobe and are resistant to trying new styles. As a result, retailers play it safe.
My advice is to head to Duncan & Prudence in Newtown. They offer a custom T-shirt service and can sew up a plain good quality T- shirt in a jiffy. They also allow customers to choose from hundreds Richard Mille Watches of original screen print designs. If you don't want a print - no problem. They also do custom fit denim jeans.
Mandatory menswear boutique on Cuba St is also worth a visit. Aside from the stock on the shop floor they also offer a made-to- measure service. I also recommend a trip to Victoria St to Marvel Menswear and World. Marvel is made in Auckland and only sold through its one store in Wellington. It also stocks MisteR from Christchurch (pictured), really fun men's
embroidered patches shirts and jackets, with cool linings and cuts that are sharp and anti- fashion. World Man takes an innovative approach rather than following trends, but it takes confidence to wear it. The only downside is that this unique product is more expensive.
